This Makes my Life Easier: Weighing Milk Replacer

The key to growing healthy calves is consistency. Barb Theil of Wilbar Dairy said the calf team started weighing milk replacer a few years ago to be more consistent when feeding calves.
“At that time, we mixed in 5-gallon pails,” Theil said. “Using the scale to weigh powder and water has eliminated any mixing errors and inconsistencies from feeding to feeding.”
She said they use a chart that tells them how much water and powder to use. They recently switched to a Milk Taxi, but they continue to weigh the powder. She said this system has reduced scours and other calf issues.
