(Madison, Wis.) – Kristyn Nigon was selected as the 2019 Vita Plus summer intern.  She will be working with the Vita Plus Loyal team to gain experience in dairy management and the feed industry, as well as conduct her own research project and learn more about Vita Plus for the duration of the summer.

Nigon grew up on a dairy farm in Greenwood, Wisconsin, where she assisted in every area of the farm, including harvest, calf feedings, and milkings.  She is currently a student at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls studying dairy science, with an emphasis on management, as well as agricultural business.  Last summer, Nigon worked as a field representative intern for Grassland Dairy Products and assisted with Farmers Assuring Responsible Management (FARM) welfare evaluations.  This summer, Nigon will perform a research study on prefresh cows to help determine how different diets impact blood and urine mineral levels.  She will also conduct a survey to evaluate milk fever incidence, ketosis, treatments administered and dietary mineral levels.
