Calf Care Quick Tip: Hutch Maintenance Toolbox

Posted on April 28, 2016 in Starting Strong - Calf Care
With warmer weather here, it’s a great time for a little spring cleaning and maintenance before the farm gets too busy with fieldwork.  A hutch maintenance toolbox is a handy item to have.  That way, you have one organized place for all the supplies you need as you fix hutches, panels and pens.

In addition to the typical wrenches, nuts and bolts, a bottle of shoe glue can be a helpful tool to repair cracks in plastic hutches.  Simply clean the cracked area with isopropyl alcohol and apply the glue to the crack during dry, mild weather.  Buy a new tube each year as the glue thickens over time.
