(Madison, Wis.) – Wyatt Smith was recently named a Vita Plus dairy specialist.  Smith’s primary responsibilities will be to provide dairy producers in northwest Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota with feed, nutritional, and management expertise for every area of the dairy farm.  In addition, he will be tasked to stay up-to-date on industry research and technologies to provide on-farm assistance for other Vita Plus and dealer staff.

Smith grew up on his family’s 180-cow registered Jersey dairy farm in Hamburg, Minnesota, where he gained practical experience working in different areas of the farm.  Smith attended the University of Minnesota and received his bachelor’s degree in animal science, with a focus on dairy production.  He then attended the University of Vermont and earned his master’s degree in animal science and dairy cattle nutrition, in cooperation with the William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute.  His research focused on evaluating the physical and digestibility characteristics of fiber.  Smith also gained practical experience as a dairy nutrition summer intern for Ag Partners Cooperative in Goodhue, Minnesota, where he collected feed samples and analyzed the undigestible neutral detergent (uNDF) fiber levels.
