(Loyal, Wis.) – Vita Plus Loyal is proud to name five high school seniors as recipients of the 2013 “Our Future is Agriculture” scholarships. This program recognizes deserving students with long-term career interests in agriculture.  Students must plan to enroll in an accredited vocational/technical institute, community college or four-year college or university that offers an academic major in a field related to agriculture.  The $500 scholarships may be applied toward tuition, room and board, or other expenses.  This year’s recipients are Larissa Pfaff, Lincoln High School; Jessica Pralle, Osseo-Fairchild High School; McKenzie Rowley, Loyal High School; Nick Schank, Arcadia High School; and Caroline Wolf, Loyal High School.

Larissa Pfaff, Alma Center, is the daughter of Steve and Kristin Pfaff.  She is actively involved in the National Honor Society, Lincoln FFA Chapter and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).  She is also a member of the Milk Duds 4-H Club and the Jackson County Junior Holsteins Association.  This fall, Pfaff plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to major in agricultural journalism/marketing communications.  She plans to pursue a career in agribusiness.  “I have shown dairy cattle at the local, state and national levels with my family since I was a little girl and have loved every second of it,” Pfaff said.  “I hope to continue advocating the importance of agriculture to others.”

Jessica Pralle, Humbird, is the daughter of Scott Pralle and Pam Selz-Pralle.  She is an active member of the Wisconsin Junior Holstein Association, Osseo-Fairchild FFA Chapter and Clark County 4-H as well as a member of the varsity basketball and volleyball teams.  She has received numerous awards showing dairy cattle at the Wisconsin State Fair and World Dairy Expo.  Pralle will attend UW-Madison to major in dairy science with a pre-vet or animal nutrition focus.  She would like to explore opportunities as a veterinarian or livestock nutritionist before returning to her family farm.  “As a high school senior, my career opportunities are endless,” Pralle said.  “But one thing’s for sure, my work boots are going to stay in the dairy industry.  It’s who I am.”

McKenzie Rowley, Loyal, is the daughter of Donnie and Brenda Rowley.  She served as president of the Loyal FFA Chapter, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, and the Beaver Center/Jolly Workers 4-H Club.  She is also actively involved in student council and Clark County Junior Holsteins.  Rowley will attend UW-Madison in the fall to double-major in agricultural business management and life sciences communication with plans to pursue a career in agricultural marketing and business.  “Growing up on a small dairy farm has given me responsibility and has inspired my love for dairy cattle to grow into a passion,” Rowley said.  “A career in this industry would allow me to market improved products and services for the benefit of consumers, and research their needs, attitudes, and markets.”

Nick Schank, Arcadia, is the son of Scott and Barb Schank.  He was elected president of the Arcadia FFA Chapter and served as the reporter for two years as well.  He was also a member of the Arcadia Hummingbirds 4-H Club, his local church and the Indee Snowriders Snowmobile Club.  Schank plans to attend Fox Valley Technical College to pursue an associate’s degree in agricultural power equipment.  He plans to work in machinery and equipment repairs and eventually return to his family farm.  Schank said, “After I graduate, I will return to Arcadia to work at the local implement dealership.  I will also help work on the family farm to set the stage for my takeover when I’m in my thirties.”

Caroline Wolf, Loyal, is the daughter of Dale and Kitty Wolf.  She is an active member of the Loyal FFA Chapter, National Honor Society and forensics.  She served as president of the Loyal Lads and Lassies 4-H Club and was a four-year member of the softball team and high school chorus.  Wolf plans to attend UW-River Falls to major in dairy science and would like to pursue a career in an agricultural business.  “People all around the globe are affected by agriculture every day,” Wolf said.  “Growing up in an agricultural environment has influenced my desire to promote agriculture as a way of life.”

The employee owners at Vita Plus Loyal recognize that supporting students in their pursuit of agricultural careers is essential to developing the next generation of leaders and innovators in the agriculture industry.  Vita Plus Loyal General Manager John Every said, “As our world grows and technology advances, the demand for highly skilled and dynamic leaders in the agriculture industry also grows.  We are proud to recognize these students’ achievements in high school and look forward to their future contributions to agriculture and our safe, wholesome and abundant food supply.”
