Efficiency, Safety Behind New SF Transport Trucks (October 2012)

(Loyal, Wis.) – SF Transport, based in Loyal, Wis., is committed to safety and quality delivery of products to customers throughout Wisconsin and the U.S.  The SF Transport team followed those values when it recently came time to purchase three new semi-trucks for the fleet.

In the last 12 months, SF Transport trucks have traveled more than 2 million miles.  In each mile, efficiently delivering a quality product was the top goal.  Continually working to boost fuel economy and protect the environment is a big part of that commitment.  The new Peterbilt trucks have 2012 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-certified engines for reduced fuel emissions.  Nationally, efforts like these have reduced heavy-duty diesel trucks’ and buses’ nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions by 99 percent, according to the Diesel Technology Forum.

In addition, wide-base single tires offer an 800-pound weight savings per semi-truck and increase fuel mileage by 3 percent.  The trucks also include truck-specific GPS navigation.  These systems help drivers by providing correct directions on roadways designated and approved for heavy trucks.

Six SF Transport employees have achieved 1 million safe miles and three of them – Del Voigt, Walt Karl and Dave Bloom – have achieved 2 million safe miles.  In addition, SF Transport was a Wisconsin Motor Carrier Association Fleet Safety 2011 contest finalist and honorable mention certificate winner.

To continue toward this level of excellence in safety, the new trucks include improved safety features.  An anti-lock braking system and disc brakes improve the stopping distance and braking control.  Hands-free communication systems ensure that drivers can keep both hands on the wheel at all times.
