Decision Making Software Tools. Vita Plus has developed a number of software tools for decision making on the farm, such a PayBack! PayBack! provides a 5-step process to calculate the profit margin and return on investment based on scientific data and herd specific economic values for making feeding and/or management changes. Another tool, the Forage Value Calculator uses current cash hay and corn prices and per cent moisture to estimate the dollar value of hay, haylage and corn silage.
Ration Balancing and Testing. Vita Plus uses the most up-to-date models for balancing rations. Nutri-Spec is our powerful nutrition software program. It is a flexible, comprehensive program for growing heifers, lactating, dry and prefresh and postfresh cows. Nutri-Spec ties together sound nutrition and economic analysis to provide the best-cost ration. Nutri-Spec can not only balance for the standard requirements, but it can also evaluate effective NDF, starch, and methionine and lysine levels. When we balance rations, we evaluate the homegrown feeds and complement them with purchased products to maximize profitability. In addition to Nutri-Spec, we work with the CPM (Cornell, Penn and Miner) Model and the NRC (National Research Council). The CPM Model offers a tool for a more in-depth ration troubleshooting. The NRC model offers more in depth tool for ration analysis. We also work closely with a number of testing labs across the United States to help provide producers with accurate results to your ration levels. Some of the various analyses include NIR analysis, wet chemistry, and two troubleshooting tools for forages; fermentation and in vitro digestibility.
